Another crack at The Wall
This makes me squeeful (as I had actually almost seen the show the first time, only to be thwarted by parents who were sneakier than their own kids). And I love The Wall (though I have an obvious bias in being acquainted with one of the bricklayers). What say you, fellow Floydians?

Re: Another crack at The Wall
I saw one of the "Wall" shows at the Nassau Coliseum on Long Island (New York) and thought it was one of the greatest shows I've ever seen (including Yes from 1978 to present, ELP with the orchestra in 1977, the Who, the Stones, etc.)
I would be thrilled to see a well-done production again. I had heard it was going to be done on Broadway but that project seems to have died in its tracks. The staging and musicianship for the show I saw was fantastic. Here are some video and photo links for those so inclined to explore the Floydian era of pomp and circumstance: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SxBcd...eature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=liDUD...eature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gs3lQ...eature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BkuNI17V0gI http://www.pinkfloydz.com/nassau_part_1.htm Last edited by siberian khatru; 2 Weeks Ago at 07:54 PM. |

Re: Another crack at The Wall
According to Roger (as cited in the latest issue of Mojo), the Broadway production is currently in its' fourth draft.
There's probably going to be a huge media blitz over the next year in terms of material available: footage from the '81 Earls Court shows on DVD, the tour, and other things Of Which I Cannot Speak.

Re: Another crack at The Wall
2 things:
1. Waters needs to stop fox hunting before he ever expects me to pay a cent to see him in concert. 2. Waters needs to stop bashing the U.S. (which he lives in and has earned millions from) before he ever expects me to pay a cent to see him in concert.

But hey, didn't David Gilmour play in Chicago on his last US (ahem) "tour"? He only did like five cities in North America, and I'm sure that show couldn't have been as complex as The Wall was.

Re: Another crack at The Wall
Another DVD release in the pipeline is a video chroncling Roger's DSotM tour, of which shows were filmed in the 2006-2008 time period. It's unclear, however, if this will be a video in the same vein as In The Flesh or have a more "documentary" style aspect.

Re: Another crack at The Wall
Well given this is the 30th anniversary you should probably avoid PF fandom all together then for a while.

Re: Another crack at The Wall
Why? Most of their albums before this are great.

Plus, even though I am sure it would be a cool show, I can't stand The Wall for the most part, and take it to be one of the most overrated things in the history of rock. I get tired of Waters and his neurosis. Dark Side of the Moon, OK, I mean I am sick to death of it, but OK it is certainly worthy. Not The Wall. I dearly wanted to see the Pros and Cons tour back in the day, and I am still sorry I didn't get to that one, but this I will pass on with ease.

Re: Another crack at The Wall
Just that in the greater circles of fandom, right now, that's the focus. Anyone on their own can enjoy whatever they like of the back catalog at any time, of course.

Re: Another crack at The Wall
It could be really good. I didn't like the 80's version because there were too many celebrities and I think it made the music suffer.

Re: Another crack at The Wall
I totally agree, I did not enjoy the Berlin version with the exception of the staging (because it did look cool at some points). I think it robbed the story of its' emotional heart because it was too grandiose.
