I'm hoping also that those that have little or no
intention of attending, will refrain from voting.

For every available date, there's someone that'll
be unable to attend.

That has always been something I have had a problem with.

There always seem to be those that lobby and lobby for certain locations or dates and then never seem to make it to one of these things.

I, for one, have never really cared where this will be held but the date it will be held is a make or break issue.

Plus the later in August/September we go, the greater the chance of rain. Or the earlier in June. Weatherwise, all of the sites I've checked say Seattle July and August for weather...the locals can concur (or not).

From what I've heard, read and been told, I concur with Kirk. First week in July is July 4th weekend, end of summer is Labor Day. Holiday weekends a drag to travel, if you don't have to. I'd maybe extend to the 2nd weekend in July. Note that there are actually 5 July weekends in 2010, as Sheila noted in the poll.

My apologies... I thought Seafair was a lot like Portland's Rose Festival, with Navy and Coast Guard ships that visit. I remember a coworker of mine (in the late 80s) said she met her Navy boyfriend in Seattle at that event.

In any case, a late July or Mid-August gathering is good for me. I might be on my way out of here by then. I am thinking I need to live closer to my Mom now that's she is getting older.

I haven't voted for that very reason. Once a date is decided, if I have the means, I'll try to come. But at this time, I don't know if it's going to be feasible.

But they won't and as long as Yes is here I will support them. They sound great, judge them for now not before. I am not a music critic, I am a Yes fan. I love Yes, I breathe Yes every day, there are many people I know that want to put duct tape around my lips to shut me up, because I cannot go 1 day w/o talking about Yes. Actually this is the case. Seafair lasts about two weeks and the hydro races happen on one of the weekends, and there is always a Navy ship or two that makes port in Elliott Bay. They give tours of the ship, etc. There are usually large sail boats in the bay as well. Lots of seafairing festiveness...

Honestly, though, Seafair should be a pretty light hit on the YesFans gathering, and in fact it might be something several of you enjoy should the gathering happen during the festivities. I'd say it's a hit or miss thing. The biggest inconvenience with Seafair is when you need to cross Lake Washington on I-90 during the Blue Angels practice and/or air show. But it is pretty unlikely that that would get in anyone's way coming to town. Lake Washington is the big divider between the city and the suburbs (known around here as the Eastside). For the most part we should all be hanging out in the city.
There are 4 reason I can think of that YesFans would go to the Eastside during the gathering:
1) Ste Michele Winery during Hunnibee's winery tour. Also, Yes played there in 1998 and 2001. This is in Woodinville, where Kirkland meets Woodinville on the north end of the Eastside. (Incidentally, if I may wax personal, this is just down the hill from my junior high school where I was first introduced to Yes music by some classmates who were into the band - MANY moons ago.)
2) Alan White's "Big Generator" drum kit is on display at Donn Bennett Drum Studio drum shop in Bellevue, WA.
3) Visit downtown Kirkland, walk around the shops, galleries, and waterfront, and go see the Kirkland Performance Center where Yes rehearsed for their 2002 Summer tour when Rick came back. This is also the place where Yes did their legendary (and only ever) public rehearsal. Anyway, Kirkland is a very beautiful town, just north of Bellevue.
4) Alan White lives on the Eastside in or around Newcastle. Maybe he'll invite us over for a BBQ or something. (Yeah, right!!)

Other than this, we should all be West-siders for the most part!

Re: 2010 YF Gathering Date Poll

I'm surprised only 49 YESFANS voted.

There has got to be more people interested in a Gathering?

I feel many are not voting (me included) because the poll offers to many options. You can now vote for 1,2,other or all of them!
All the Seattle info seems to really limit the timing and makes selections difficult!
A new poll is need that says something like:
"vote once for what works best for you" Poll will close Dec 1, 2009 at 10pm EST

Remember also the first poll to select a city....voting ended abruptly,a city was selected....Yesfans votes didnt really matter anyway!
I know this confused, fustrated and pissed off a whole lot of us here
